Solomon Hines Obituary

Solomon R. Hines Sr. A.K.A. Sy was born August 6, 1954, in Hayti, Missouri to Solomon and Warnetta Hines. His mother, who was a nurse, decided to leave Hayti and move to St. Louis when Solomon was very young where she met and married Frank Ivy, Sr.

Solomon grew up in Pine Lawn where he attended Garfield Elementary and Normandy High school until he decided to get his GED in 1972.  In June of 1973 he joined the U.S. Air Force and attained the rank of sergeant. He then joined the U.S. Army in March 1979 also ranked as sergeant.

Sy had a wealth of knowledge on just about any and everything. He would jokingly say to his kids,I'm a jack of all trades and master of none!  If you sat down and spoke with him you would be in awe of the random, but interesting things he knew.  He would also be the person you would call if you had a question, needed advice or help getting things done. If he didn’t know how to do it, he would soon figure it out and that would be added to his vast list of acquired skills and knowledge.

Sy was diagnosed with and fortunate enough to beat prostate cancer recently, but he was unable to survive two separate brain bleeds that were discovered and on January 10, 2023 Sy passed away peacefully at Barnes Jewish Hospital at the age of 68 with his life long friend Eric at his bedside.  He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother.

He is survived by his sons Solomon Jr. (Tina), Manoah (Margiree), daughter Victoria, brothers Cedric, Frank Ivy Jr, William, a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and lifelong friends.

Shout out to all of the Darby Rangers and my niece Kim Ivy.

Thank you to everyone for all the kind words, precious memories and great stories of our father, brother and friend.
