Rose Broadwater was born to Susanna Hines and Cleveland Carter on February 14,
1928. Rose was the only child born to her parents. Both parents and one child preceded her
in death. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at the Mount Zion Baptist Church
under Pastor Sam Overton.
Rose was educated at Cahoma High School. Rose moved to St. Louis in 1950, where she
attended Fannie Tripp Beauty School. She received her Cosmetology license and then went
on to own and operate her beauty shop, until her retirement.
She met the love of her life in 1966, Richard Broadwater, and joined him in holy matrimony,
which lasted 55 years.
Rose joined Friendly Baptist Church where she served faithfully for 55 years. She later
joined Murchison CME Church, where she served until her passing.
Rose loved to cook and prepare large meals on Sundays and holidays for her family friends
and visitors. Her food was always delicious, appetizing, and nutritious. Rose departed this
life at home on April 9, 2022, to her new home in the clouds with the Lord.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Richard Broadwater, Levornia
Jackson, John Morgan (Emily), Robin Billups (Ken), Pamela Miller (Pete), and Constance
Jefferson (Andrew); two goddaughters, Catherine Anello and Karen Jones; two sisters-
in-law, Esther Edmond (James) of Chicago, Illinois, and Johnny May Smith of New Bern,
North Carolina; one brother-in-law, Robert Broadwater (Evelyn) of Peoria, Arizona; 30
grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins
and friends.
