Obituary

Ronald ‘Butch’ Hollis was born May 30, 1947 in Thomasville, GA to Robert and Doris Hollis. His family moved to St. Louis, MO when Butch was a toddler. He accepted Christ at a very young age. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Webster Groves for many years and enjoyed being in the choir there. He graduated in 1965 from Webster Groves High School where he was an active athlete. He continued his education at St. Louis Community College and obtained his associate’s degree. In 1968 Butch was drafted into the United States Army and went through special
training to become a proud paratrooper of the 101 st Airborne Division. He was injured on ‘Hamburger Hill’ in Viet Nam resulting in being awarded a Purple Heart Medal of Honor. Prior to leaving for Viet Nam in 1968 Butch was united in marriage to Amanda Hill. From this union they were blessed with one daughter, Carmen Nicole. He later married Etheldra Jones and through this union was blessed to gain and raise three sons, Michael, Reginald, Marc, and one daughter, Kaye.

After 39 years of employment at St. Louis Public Schools (Sodexo), Butch retired. He was a skilled electrician and member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1 for many years. His many accomplishments during his employment include being the first Black supervisor and manager for the St. Louis Public Schools (Sodexo) organization.

Butch leaves to cherish his memory daughter, Carmen Nicole Hollis Hart (Russell), sons, Michael Reid, Reginald Guynn (Tatia), Marc Reid, daughter, Kaye Brinson (Dexter); grandchildren, Melanie, Deja, Miguel, Zuri, Reginald II, Ricky, Danielle, Kendall, Imani, and Nia, great-grandchildren, Kiely, Delasia, Caicey, Kasiah, and Kyro; one sister, Debra Hollis Mittleman; one nephew Maxwell Hollis Mittleman; and a host of family and friends.
