Markus Willem Dowdy was born on November 3, 1995, in Saint Louis, Missouri, to Mark and Valerie Dowdy. He was more than just a son; he was a beloved brother, a dear cousin, and cherished friend. Markus was our very own gentle giant. From an early age, Markus was a very clever young man, and as his life evolved, he displayed a humble and kind nature, and he never backed down from a challenge. Markus loved his family deeply, and as the youngest of the bunch, his infectious energy, sense of humor, and charisma always ensured a good time for all.
Markus was a faithful Catholic who received all the sacraments. He was cherished by his church family who will deeply miss his presence and dedication. He delighted in sharing his faith and
assisting whenever called upon. Markus attended St. Louis Public Schools and graduated from Sumner High School. He was an esteemed individual and within his life he held positions including an extensive time with the AmeriCorps at Building Futures teaching carpentry skills to children. He was a valued member at several major corporations including Amazon, FedEx, and Diagraph. In his professional career, Markus assumed leadership and subject-matter expert roles. He always made a positive
impact with his endearing smile, attitude, and strong work ethic.
Markus is survived by his parents Mark and Valerie, siblings Amber, Kristen (Calvin McClain), Mark (preceding Markus), Matthew, and cousins Timothy (Carmen Granberry), and Rachel (Jill Blanchard, preceding Markus). Markus was also very fond of his niece and nephews Olivia, Lincoln, Honor, Maxwell, and Myles. Additionally, Markus was cherished by his loving uncles Michael Dowdy and Theopolis Franklin (preceding Markus) and his beloved feline friend Keela. Markus was a kind, loving, and funny soul. In any situation, Markus could be called upon and in true fashion he would stand with you, support you, and protect you with a humble spirit. He was a smart man, a diligent worker, and received multiple accolades and promotions within his
professional life.
Though Markus’ time with us was short, his enduring message of being a “stand-up guy” resonates with us profoundly. Our son, little brother, cousin, nephew, and friend will be forever missed and thought of as a light God allowed us to have for a moment in time.
