Jessie Akins was born August 7, 1935 at 12:02 AM to Virginia Akins and
Jimmy Carter in Starkville Mississippi. Both parents preceded him in death.
Jessie received most of his education in Starkville, Mississippi. He was very
active and enjoy sports fishing and taking pictures.
At the age of 16 Jessie came to St. Louis, Missouri with his older brother. A few years later he married Elenora Anderson and raised six children.
Two children preceded him in death Jessie May and Virginia.
After Elenora’s death, Jessie remained single for many years. Jessie attended Pure Gospel Temple
under Bishop Bose Bradford. He was very faithful and attended Sunday morning service and
Wednesday night Bible study. Jessie loved God and enjoyed Pure Gospel Temple.
Jessie worked at Krey Meat Company for many years until they closed their company. Later Jessie retired from Missouri Athletic Club. In later years Jessie married Charlene Johnson, a God-fearing servant. Jessie lived a long and happy life to God be the glory. He leaves to cherish his memories: his beautiful wife, Charlene; children, Kim (Walter) Mason, Debra (Tony) Gouse, Gary, Brenda (Mitch) Thomas, Glenda (Willie) Pruitt, Tyrone (Victoria) Johnson, Joanie, Monique, and Jessie Junior; four sisters, one of which is his twin, Bessie, Annabel, Ora Lee and Ora Bell; thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great- grandchildren, five great-great- grand children and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
