God ushered Eric Christopher Brown to this earth on June 7, 1980 to the
delight of his parents Louis Calvin and Iness Rene' Brown. From the start,
there was an unbreakable bond with his brother Eldgin Victor Brown, despite
a five year age difference. This was evidenced through the years by his mom's
assertion that Eric and Eldgin would have to "make up something to fight
about," because they got along so well. Always a brother to others, Eric
embraced DJuan Lance Shepherd as a true brother when DJuan was
"grafted" into the family at age 10 1/2 after the death of his mother.
Eric grew to be curious and adventurous, possessing his father's intelligence
and wit, and his mother's way of creating lifelong friendships with a wide
array of people. Eric's smile was infectious, and he could make anyone laugh
with his zany, clever jokes. "Quotes from Zion" and "Quotes from Zoe" come
straight through his genes - he was always asking the most hilarious questions. Eric was a fast learner, always trying to disassemble everything he
could - a skill that would serve him well in his careers in music and
technology.
From early on Eric had that LIGHT that drew people to him. In spite of the
death of his father when Eric was the tender age of 4 1/2, Eric grew in great
character and integrity. A Kansas City, Missouri native, he developed and
maintained a literal "brotherhood" of friends - some of them from elementary
school and his neighborhood, but most from his days at East High School.
Eric's LIGHT drew enduring friendships beyond high school as well -
throughout college, in the workplace, and in his fellowship at the Journey Tower Grove.
Eric taught us what family really means. In 1998 Eric found the love of his life
in Talitha Felicia Jones at Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph,
Missouri. On Eric's birthday in 2002, he and Talitha joined in marriage,
creating a union of amazing friendship, indescribable love, and unbreakable
trust that characterized their relationship. That same year, Zoe Christina
Brown blessed their lives, not only as a spitting image of her father, but
embodying his caring and compassionate heart. Two and a half years later,
Zion Christopher Brown expanded the family, epitomizing his father's intellect,
reserved calming presence, and his humor. Eric etched the love of God into
the lives of his wife and children. Talitha's and Eric's love will NEVER end, and
his beautiful children Zoe and Zion will ALWAYS have him in their hearts.
On January 6th, 2015, suddenly, without warning, and to the dismay of all
who knew him, God called Eric to a Higher Place. His LIGHT will shine down
on us forever, illuminating the Path, and raising the bar for each of us to
know God and to love others.
