Welcome to the memorial page for

David R. Wilson

September 15, 1940 ~ January 31, 2016 (age 75) 75 Years Old
It's hard not to smile when thinking about David, even during this time.
David Wilson never met a stranger. He knew how to work a room and his laugh was infectious. He was a strong man that exuded kindness and found great joy in making the people around him happy.
David enjoyed his life. He was married and dedicated to his soulmate and best friend for 46 years. Their love for each other was evident and grew with each day. You would often hear him say, "When Bobbie is away, I just can't really sleep until she gets back". We called it whining but we also knew that it was love.
He was a natural storyteller. At family get-togethers, we would gather around to listen to him and his brothers and sisters share wild tales of their childhood.
He was a writer of poetry and short stories that he shared on his blog. He enjoyed listening to jazz and the blues, and playing games with his daughters and grandchildren. You could catch him sitting at the edge of his garage, whittling, creating his carved wooden pens... I'm sure you've all seen them. And if you were fortunate, you were able to enjoy one of his "world famous" cakes or cheesecakes, because he loved to bake.
He loved his family deeply. He was the Big Brother you could always count on, a loving father and close friend to his daughters and a favorite uncle for numerous nieces and nephews.
David was also very serious about his relationship with the Lord. He was preparing to become a Deacon at The Ministry of Jesus Christ at First Baptist Church of Webster Groves. He vacillated between excitement and nervousness, you see, he didn't want to disappoint God. On January 30, 2016, he completed the trials to become a Deacon. He was so happy and his family was so proud.
But the Lord had other plans. David Ray Wilson, a funny, always smiling and one of the coolest ushers we know, was called home on January 31, 2016.
He was born in Alligator, Mississippi to parents, Matthew, Sr. (PaPa) and Virginia Cora Wilson on September 15, 1940, who preceded him in death. Also preceded in death are step-mother Nerlene Wilson, brothers Bernard, Sylvester, George and sister Cozella.
In addition to his wife, Bobbie, David is survived by his daughters, Stephanie, Lynn, Dana and Kristie; grandchildren Solomon and Jaylen; sisters Iretha, Charlesetta, Vera (Richard), Theresa and Marjorie (Jeffrey); brothers Matthew, Jr. (Vallorie), James (Bertina), and John; Sister-in-law, Rosie Wartts, Brother-in-laws, Andrew, Charles, Eddie and Joseph Wartts, many special nieces, nephews and cousins; and treasured friends, including his beloved church family.
David touched us in a positive light in many ways, leaving a legacy of joy, class with swag and much love. He will be remembered as a man full of love, laughter and life.
He will truly be missed.
The Wilson family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all for your support and prayers. Each card, call of concern and prayer made a huge difference in our hours of bereavement and are greatly appreciated. May God's continual blessings be upon each of you. -The Family--
