Craig Lawrence Obituary

Born on August 7, 1972, in St. Louis, MO, to Larry and Delores Lawrence, Craig Terrell Lawrence was a radiant light in the lives of all who knew him. Baptized at an early age at Lutheran Memorial Church, Craig embraced his faith throughout his life, finding strength and solace in it.

Craig graduated from Lutheran North High School in Oakville, MO, in 1990, where he forged lifelong friendships and cherished memories. He began his higher education journey at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg before transferring to Forest Park Community College in St. Louis, where he earned an Associate Degree in Accounting in 1996. In the 90s, Craig could often be found at Saints Rolling Skating Rink, assisting his friends with their family business and building lasting connections. His presence there was a source of joy and camaraderie. His dedication and unwavering willingness to help out made him a great asset to everyone there. Craig’s professional career was a testament to his dedication and passion. He worked at MCI Communications Corporation in Earth City, Missouri, for several years before securing his dream job with SoSouth, Rap- A-Lot Records, and Alamazing Media. Known affectionately as “The Money Man,” Craig excelled as an accountant, traveling across the country to promote and distribute southern rap and hip-hop music. He played a crucial role in ensuring the financial accuracy and integrity for both their renowned artists, such as Scarface, Willie D, and Devin the Dude, as well as for new and underground artists. His dedication to meticulous financial management helped support the success and stability of the entire roster. When it came to money, Craig was unwavering, and when it came to managing finances, no task was too small for him. Whether he was collecting money at the door or meticulously balancing the books, Craig embraced it all with enthusiasm and dedication. His passion for ensuring financial integrity was evident in every aspect of his work.

Craig had a deep love for sports, particularly cheering on his favorite teams: the St. Louis Cardinals, the St. Louis Blues Hockey team, and the Boston Celtics. He was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast, enjoyed playing the lottery—especially the Pick 3 game—and never missed an opportunity to savor Ms. Hullings’ split-layer chocolate cake. Craig’s playful, fun-loving, and resilient personality endeared him to everyone. His infectious joy brought laughter and warmth to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Lawrence and Delores Bibb; grandparents, William and Edith Cooper; and sister, Terri Lawrence. Craig’s memory will forever live on, especially in the hearts of his surviving family, because he was the irreplaceable “glue” that held everyone together. Craig maintained close connections with family members near and far, always knowing the who, what, and where of the entire clan. As the reliable peacekeeper, Craig possessed an extraordinary talent for keeping it real, one hundred to be exact, while maintaining his calm, cool, and collected composure. His remarkable ability to handle situations without raising his voice or causing unrest was just who he was. His unwavering dedication and love for his family were an inspiration to
all, reminding us of the importance of staying connected and supportive of one another. He is survived by his siblings, Veda, Chris, Robyn, Larry, Barry (Ruby), Sherri, Cory, and Carrie Hughes (Larry). He also leaves behind loving aunts, Phyllis Cooper and Jackie Lawrence, as well as wonderful nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Craig held a special bond with his stepfather, Elmer Bibb; “bonus” son, Cameron Gunn; and cousin, Michael Cooper, who was more like a brother to him; and a host of other family and friends who will forever remember his kindness and humble spirit.

Craig Terrell Lawrence will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a shining testament to the power of kindness, the importance of family, and the beauty of true friendship. Craig’s memory will forever be deeply intertwined in our hearts, a constant reminder of the love and joy he brought into our lives. We were all truly blessed to have known Craig, and his legacy of compassion and connection will continue to inspire us.
