I just heard of his passing a few days ago and it truly saddened me. I pitched fast-pitch for many years and have been involved in the game for even longer. One of the nicest men I have ever known. Also the best umpire St. Louis has ever had, without a doubt. Being a pitcher I did not want to fraternize with the umpires too much for fear of looking like I was looking for favoritism. I was always friendly with him, but laid back a little. I sometimes wondered if he thought I was being standofish. It bothered me. I hoped he didn't think less of me so I usually tried to engage him in friendly conversation after or at another teams games. That was always pleasant. He had the kind of personality that I envied. My sincere sympathy to the family.

Our sincerest condolences to the Watson family. I had the priviledge to meet and umpire with Leon several times at ISC World Tournaments. He was not only a tremendous umpire but one of the best gentlemen I have ever know. RIP Leon.
