Robert Taylor Sanders, was born on August 30,1963 just seven minutes ahead of his brother, Richard. Though referred to as “the short twin,” Robert never hesitated to let everyone know that he
was “the older twin.” Upon his passing on March 10, 2024, he was preceded in death by his father, Allen Sanders, Sr., his mother, Lula Sanders, and his sister, Alice Faye Pulley.
Robert attended Sunshine Band and Sunday School at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Richmond Heights, Missouri under the pastorship of Reverend James E. Fiddmont. Robert accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at this church. Robert enjoyed reading and studying the Bible with his mother because he had a deep yearning to understand God’s Word.
Robert attended the Maplewood-Richmond Heights School District. Prior to his graduation from high school in 1981, he ran track and played football. He often jestfully boasted that his great
running back skills were better than the professionals.’ Whenever a great professional running back would pass away, Robert would tell his brother, Glenn, and his nephew, Nate, that he (Robert) had just moved up on the list of great running backs.
After high school, Robert and his twin brother, Richard, followed the legacy of their brother, Allen, and sister, Alice Faye, and attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. Later, he was a proud graduate of the MET Center as a certified machinist. He was then employed by GKN Automotive Global Engineering and Manufacturing for 15 years. At the time of his death, Robert was employed by Steris as a machinist.
Robert loved to fish. He was happy that the Creve Coeur Lake was just a “few stop signs away” from his home in Creve Coeur. This allowed him to go fishing frequently. On the day of his death,
Robert had plans to go fishing with his longtime childhood friend, Roland Hayes.
Robert leaves to celebrate his life: an aunt, Laura Dent; siblings: Allen (Susie) Sanders, Arlene (George) Holley, Cornelia Sanders, and Richard (Jennifer) Sanders; his special friend, Cathy McMillen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
